Dear Parents,

We welcome you to yet another year at Riverside!

At the outset, let me thank you for your unstinting support. The past week has seen us sharing our vision for our children, our mission as educators and our expectations of you, the parent community, which will truly enable and empower our children.

Our children will be facing challenges that do not yet exist and will solve problems that have not yet taken shape. ‘Education’ needs to be redefined and should be addressing these children of the future.

Recalling the words of Khalil Gibran,

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

Towards this,

The Riverside curriculum is designed in such a way that it addresses the different age groups with what is their flow in the cognitive, social, emotional and physical which in turn will ensure the well being of our children. Our beacons, whether they are the language package, logical mathematical, inter and intrapersonal guide us through our journeys with our children.

Elaborating on this,

Key Stage 1

The youngest protagonists in our school belong to key Stage 1. They come to us when they are between 2½ and 3 years old.

You and your children trust us to do right by them. We respond to that trust by making sure that we remain committed to making this complex world simpler.

Therefore, the curriculum at this stage is towards creating an awareness of self and the immediate environment through exploration, interest centres etc  keeping in mind that the key to this is when their curiosity is nutured.

Key stage 2 works towards enabling children who move to this stage from Key Stage 1- arming them with strategies that would help them become more competent and less helpless. They learn to decode unfamiliar text choosing appropriate tools, they learn to work together drawing on one another’s strengths, they learn to share their talents through our buddy interactions for they understand that talent not shared is talent wasted, they learn that disparity is a reality through our citizenship programs, they learn that mental borders can be broken down and most important - they use their logical and mathematical skills to problem solve. The city and its communities are actively sought to provide real life experiences where internships get them to rub shoulders with professionals.

They learn the value of diligence and hard work when they start to compile their CV’s from this age!

Key Stage 2 has two distinct groups within itself – one that still looks towards the teacher and one that is on the road to adolescence – the pre adolescent! Understanding THE CHILD has been our priority at all times.

Key stage 3

Our learners in Grades 8 and 9 are young adults who are finding their feet in this world. They have this wonderful feeling of being capable of taking on whatever! They want to break free of any shackle and stereotyping. They yearn to create an identity of their own.

An understanding of this flow of these children will not have us conform to old methods that will surely stifle them and create rebels and cynics .Their well being is of utmost concern!

Our belief that the future of India lies in her children has been reiterated with all that has been going on in the world. Mere ‘content’ will therefore not ensure this. There is an overwhelming need to equip our children with tools that will stand them in good stead. And this is what a Key Stage 3 participant will design – a curriculum that will take the learner on roads towards mastery – a journey that will establish the value of ‘persistence’.

The subversive curriculum at Riverside addresses the need of the hour of making our children ‘feel good’ for then we know that they will ‘do good’.

We look forward to your continued participation and support.

"We are thrilled that the Riverside School is undertaking this bold new
initiative to unite the children of India in giving back to their country.
We can't wait to see what the children imagine and do in their communities!"
